About Probability in Exercise 16.1

We know that probability is one of the branches of mathematical studies which states how likely the event may occur in the mathematical sense. The outcome of these events is uncertain and cannot be predicted with full confidence.

In such a case we rely on the fact of how likely the outcome may happen. In class 11th Maths exercise 16.1, student will see the examples of probability using the direct approach.

Ways to Calculate Probability in Exercise 16.1

So far, we have studied the concepts of probability in Mathematics for calculating the uncertainty of various phenomena. Like, we calculated the probability of receiving an even number when we throw a dice as 3/6, i.e., ½. Here, possible outcomes are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. The outcomes in favor of our expectations are 2, 4, and 6, which means only three chances are there.

In general, to receive an outcome in favor of the event, we find the ratio of the number of outcomes favoring the event. The sum of these favoring outcomes is what we study in the previous class as the classical theory of probability.

Questions of Exercise 16.1 in 11th Maths

The above article raises the question, what can we expect in probability chapter 16 from NCERT solutions for class 11th Maths? To answer this question, we would like to say that you will study to learn to find the probability, based on observations by gathering data and using them.

The process is known as the statistical approach to probability. This is one of the advanced versions of measuring probability. All the questions in Exercise 16.1 are easy and based on definitions.

Practice questions in Exercise 16.1 Class 11 Maths

Even though this is one measure ahead of the theories that you have learned so far, but still have some serious difficulties. Like – it will fail to measure the outcomes of activities or experiments which have an infinite number of outcomes.

Still, it is one of the important concepts in CBSE chapter 16 from an examination perspective. You can expect one long question carrying 3 marks and a short question carrying 1 marks and above.
