###### About 7 Maths Chapter 13

In 7 Maths Chapter 13 Exponents and Powers, we will learn about the various rules exponents and conversion of powers into exponent and exponents to powers. Here we will study about expressing the numbers as product of powers of their prime factors, writing the numbers using exponential notation, dividing powers with the same base, working with Power of a Power, Multiplying Powers with the Same Exponents, etc. Discussion about Dividing Powers with the Same Exponents, Numbers with exponent zero, Miscellaneous questions using the laws of exponents,

Note: In most of the questions that are taken in Chapter 13, the base of a power was taken an integer. But all the results of this chapter apply equally well to a base which is a rational number.

Standard Form: Any number can be expressed as a decimal number between 1.0 and 10.0 including 1.0 multiplied by a power of 10. Such a form of a number is called its standard form.

The questions based on, conversing of number into standard form or Scientific form to normal form and vice versa are given in the last exercise, are very important for the further classes. Most of the larger numbers are normally written in the standard form.

#### What is the use of Exponents and Powers?

Exponents are used to express large numbers in shorter form to make them easy to read, understand, compare and operate upon.

#### What is the standard form or scientific notation?

Any number can be expressed as a decimal number between 1.0 and 10.0 (including 1.0) multiplied by a power of 10. Such form of a number is called its standard form or scientific notation.

#### What is the expanded form of an exponent form?

a × a × a × a = a^4 (read as ‘a’ raised to the exponent 4 or the fourth power of a), where ‘a’ is the base and 4 is the exponent and a4 is called the exponential form. a × a × a × a is called the expanded form.
