CBSE Syllabus for academic session 2026-27 is now released by CBSE on April 1, 2020 for new academic year. More changes may come in next few weeks in curriculum for this session. As we know that Mathematics is an important subject which helps students in various fields of their choices. It is widely used in higher studies in the field of Economics, Commerce, etc., for concept clearing as well as it has been noticed that the syllabus of Mathematics is designed majorly for science stream students not for commerce or humanities scholars. Keeping this fact in mind CBSE have introduced a new subject as โApplied Mathematicsโ for senior secondary level which will help the students in university education. It will provide students relevant experience in Mathematics which can be used in the fields other than Physical Sciences.
This course is developed in such a way that students can use their mathematical knowledge in the field of business prospective, economic assessments and different area of social sciences evaluation like graphs, charts or statistical analytics. This is not just like Vedic Maths but it is more fundamental for everyday mathematical experiences.
NCERT Books for Applied Mathematics also reinforces the logical reasoning skills of formulating and validating mathematical arguments and implementing for further evaluation, framing and finding counter examples. It encourages students to engage in mathematical investigations and to build connections within mathematical topics and with other disciplines. Using Applied Mathematics, students can use algebraic methods as a means of representation and as a problem-solving tool or interpret 2 -D geometrical figures using algebra to further deduce properties of geometrical figures in coordinate system.
Students who have opted Basic Maths (Code โ 241) instead of Standard Mathematics (Code โ 041) in Class X, they also are eligible to opt Applied Mathematics in class 11. Applied Mathematics includes Prime Numbers, Binary Numbers, Basic ideas of Complex Numbers, Indices, Logarithm and Antilogarithm, Numerical problems on averages, calendar, clock, time, work and distance, mensuration, seating arrangement.
The following combinations cannot be taken together;
(i) Business Studies (Code 054) and Business Administration (Code 833).
(ii) Further, out of three Computer Science/IT related subjects i.e. Informatics Practices (065), Computer Science (Code 083), and Information Technology (Code 802), a candidate can opt only for one subject.
(iii) Biology (Code 044) and Biotechnology (Code 045).
(iv) Mathematics (Code 041) and Applied Mathematics (Code 241).
Applied Mathematics includes Interest and interest rate, simple and compound interest, effective rate of interest, Present value, net present value and future value, Annuities, calculating value of regular annuity, Tax, calculation of tax, Income Tax, Bills, tariff rates, fixed charge, surcharge, service charge, Calculation and interpretation of electricity bill, water supply bill and other supply bills.
