The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday (July 15, 2021) directed affiliated schools to complete the mark sheets and moderation for class 12 students in a time-bound manner so that the results can be declared by July 31. The board had cancelled the class 12 exams in view of the second wave of COVID-19 and decided to declare the results based on the alternative evaluation policy.
According to a PTI report, CBSE controller of examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj in a letter to the school principals affiliated to the board said, โSince the board has to declare the result latest by July 31, schools are requested to strictly follow the schedule and โComplete The Moderationโ within schedule. If any school is left to complete moderation within the stipulated schedule, their result will be declared separately after July 31โ.
CBSE Controller of Examinations said, โIt is important to reiterate that the common objective before all of us is to declare valid, reliable and fair results of the students in the event of a pandemic.”
Additionally, CBSE on Thursday also announced that the portal for finalization and moderation of results will open from July 16 to July 22.
โModerate the marks of class 11 and 12 would be a huge responsibility, which should be done to ensure justice and fairness to the students. Any differential application of the policy in schools may result in adverse effect or unfair advantage for some students,โ Bharadwaj said.
โIt should be noted that the responsibility of the result committee on behalf of CBSE is being exercised for the entire student population and should not be seen as limited to any particular school. It is mandatory for schools to moderate the marks, in such a manner that the results are comparable and no student is harmed due to any uneven application of the policy in any school or schools,โ Bharadwaj said.
The board has also released a reference distribution of marks, which is taken as reference for the purpose of moderation to help the schools.
โSchools are once again directed to follow the reference distribution while moderating the marks. Also, to ensure comparability and fairness on the higher-grade marks, the schools should exercise due diligence and ensure should there be no aggregate of aggregate marks in the range of 95 and above.
โTherefore, they have to limit the number of students at each level of aggregate marks to 95 and above to ensure that this number is in line with the best historical performance of the previous ones to obtain these composite marks. The number of students does not exceed three yearsโ, the controller of examinations said.
The software developed by CBSE for this purpose has two sections – subject wise moderation and overall moderation.
โA complete table sheet will appear for schools having all components of marks and schools should first go through the guidelines and understand before reducing the marks. It can also be ensured that the ‘Submission’ button should be pressed only when you are confirmed that the moderation you have made is 100% correctโ.
โIf it is observed that a school has not followed the instructions, CBSE will moderate the marks to bring the given marks in line with the objectives of the policy before preparing the result. The changes made by the schools in the data will be recorded by CBSE. If it is observed that the policy has not been followed in letter and spirit by the schools, CBSE may initiate action as prescribed in the policyโ.
