The weather is such a complex phenomenon that it can vary over very short periods of time. Or, a heavy rain may vanish in a matter of minutes and give way to bright sunshine.

Every place on the earth has its own climate. Our climate depends on our position on the earth and our distance from the sun. The climate is different at different places around the world because there are not heated equally by the sun. The equator of earth is at the minimum distance from the sun. The regions around the equator of earth called “tropical regions”, where the sun shines directly over-head and get the maximum heat from the sun and have a very hot climate.
As a region gets more and more away from the equator towards the poles, the amount of sun’s heat received by the region goes on decreasing, leading to gradually cooler climates. The poles of the earth are at the maximum distances from the sun. Due to this, the sun’s rays have to travel much more to reach the polar regions of earth which makes them lose much of their heat. So, the climate in tropical region is very hot whereas that in polar region is extremely cold.
What do you mean by “adaptation”?
The presence of specific body features (or certain habits) which enable an animal or a plant to live in a particular habitat (or surroundings) is called adaptation. The body features and habits that help animals (and plants) to adapt to their particular habitats or surroundings are a result of the process of evolution.

Write the factors which affect climate.
There are some important factors which determine the climate at place. Such as : Temperature, Rainfall, Altitude, Location.
- If a place is located near the equator, the place will be very hot and humid. Because that places absorbs most of the heat from the sun.
- Mawsynram, located in the Meghalaya State in India, is the wettest place in the world. It receives an annual rainfall of 11,871 millimeters. The mountainous terrain of the surrounding land forces the northward-moving warm moist monsoon winds coming from the Bay of Bengal to converge over Mawsynram. Polar bears have white fur so that they are not easily visible in the snowy white background. It protects them from their predators. It also helps them in catching their prey. In fact, they are so well-insulated that they have to move slowly and rest often to avoid getting overheated. Physical activities on warm days necessitate cooling. The tropical region has generally a hot climate because of its location around the equator. Even in the coldest month the temperature is generally higher than about 15°C. An important feature of this region is the tropical rainforests. Tropical rainforests are found in Western Ghats and Assam in India, Southeast Asia, Central America and Central Africa. Because of continuous warmth and rain, this region supports wide variety of plants and animals. The major types of animals living in the rainforests are monkeys, apes, gorillas, tigers, elephants, leopards, lizards, snakes, birds and insects. - i) For all birds, one of the principles driving forces behind migration is “food scarcity”. If all birds were to stay in the same rich, tropical areas year-round, food would become scarce and breeding would be less successful with undernourished parents and hungry hatchlings.
- ii) Birds have evolved different migration patterns, timing, and destinations to disperse around the world to “breed their families”. This helps birds take advantage of a wide variety of suitable conditions to raise their young, increasing the chances of healthy, viable offspring. “Breeding colonies” that offer greater protection than a single pair of bird parents are all important for breeding dispersal.
- iii) Birds have evolved different types of plumage to survive different climates, and changes in those “climates” can affect migration.
