How to print a pattern?

Drawing by looking at the pattern is not always accurate but then what one can do about it? To make it perfect and how it looks perfect.
The best way to capture is given in the story How Ron started to do it by keeping pen and paper handy. Once you find out what and how he has done it what do you think would be easy for you to find and trace all the markings and patterns?
