CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 Examination According to Different Situations

Class 10 and Class 12 Examination
Post Date: July 8, 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the regular classes and examinations of the previous and current academic year. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) was forced to cancel the crucial exams of class 10 and 12, leading to a lot of concern about the evaluation criteria and results of students.
In view of this, the board has prepared the parameters to be used to declare the result of 2020-21 batch and announced the same early last month. Subsequently, several other measures were also taken to ensure a smooth and transparent process of evaluation.

The Process Should Develop

CBSE has directed its regional officers across the country to visit the affiliated schools preparing the results of class 10th and 12th to inspect their work.
The new norms for declaration of results entrust the schools to do most of the evaluation work based on internal assessment, practical and project work.
CBSE said that the officials visiting the schools would also sign the inspected documents, especially the score rationalization documents. The complete report along with the soft copies of the documents will be sent to the controller of examination by July 12.

Deploy Automation Software By Board

The board said it will deploy software to partially automate the Class 12 board exam evaluation process and assist schools in the tabulation of marks.
Through the new system, the Class 10 CBSE board marks will be taken automatically from the system by the software. The board is exploring the use of class 10 board data of boards of other schools from where some students usually move to CBSE after class 10. This will potentially reduce human error.
Schools will have to give theory marks only to those students who have passed 10th class from another board. CBSE has also directed that schools keep these marks in soft copy format.

Keep Students Details Updated

CBSE has asked schools to upload seven important information about their students for automation software. The board said that the schools need to upload the internal grades of each student along with practical/projects/internal assessment marks.
Schools will also have to upload class 10 roll number, name of the school board and year of passing for verification, and submit “Availability of historical performance of schools to be taken as reference for moderation”.

In addition, class 11 theory marks datasheet and class 12 theory marks datasheet need to be uploaded in a dedicated portal developed by CBSE.

Physical Examination May Be Conducted On

For students dissatisfied with CBSE’s evaluation criteria, physical examination may be conducted in August, if the declining trend in Covid-19 cases continues. Calculation of class 10, 12 marks without exam. CBSE has announced that for class 10, the authorities will include 40% marks from pre-board examinations, 30% marks from half-yearly or mid-term examinations, 20% from an internal assessment carried out by schools and 10% from periodic or unit tests.

Adopting 30:30:40 Formula For Evaluation

For class 12, it has been said that around 40% marks will be based on pre-board examinations or unit tests, while classes 10 and 11 will carry 30% marks each. The board will adopt a 30:30:40 formula for evaluation of class 12 students based on the results of class 10, 11 and 12 examinations. Class 12 result will be declared by July 31 and class 10 result by July 20.

Exam Pattern with MCQs

CBSE Term 1 will consist mostly of “Multiple-Choice Questions” (MCQs) consisting of case-based MCQs and MCQs on the type of assertion-reasoning. The exam will be of 90 minutes each and will cover only 50 percent of the entire syllabus.
Term 2 or yearend examinations will be based on rational syllabus of second term i.e., 50% of the entire syllabus. This term exam will be conducted around March-April 2022 at the examination centres fixed by the board.

Evaluation Or Examination

Evaluation Or Examination According To Different Situations:

    • 1) If the pandemic situation improves and students are able to come to schools or centres to take exams. The Board will conduct Term I and Term II examinations at schools/centres and the theory marks will be distributed equally between both the examinations.
    • 2) If schools are completely closed during November-December 2021 due to pandemic situation but Term II examination is conducted at schools or centres. Term I MCQ based exam will be conducted online/offline by the students from home – in this case, the weightage of this exam will be reduced for the final score, and the weightage of Term II exam will be increased for the declaration of the final result.
    • 3) If schools are completely closed during March-April 2022 due to pandemic situation but Term I examination is conducted at schools or centres. The results will be based on the performance of the students on Term I MCQ based examination and internal assessment. The weightage of marks of Term I examination conducted by the board will be increased to provide year end result of the candidates.
    • 4) Completely shut down schools and board in pandemic situation, then Term I and II exams are taken from home by candidates in session 2025-26.
The results will be calculated on the basis of internal assessment/ practical/ project work and theory scores, subject to moderation or other measures to ensure the validity and reliability of the examination taken by the candidate in class X/XII from home.
Exam From Home

CBSE may allow class 10 and 12 students to take board exams from home in 2025-26 if the COVID-19 situation worsens in the coming months.
The board has indicated that cancellation of exams is not a solution, going forward, in the ongoing academic session in the country facing the third wave of the pandemic, instead of cancelling, home-based online or offline examinations will be conducted.
In all the above cases, data analysis of marks of students will be done to ensure the integrity of internal assessment and home-based examinations.
