All the best for the festive seasons, you are aware that CBSE will be using OMR for the first time for the evaluation of both Class-X and XII. Therefore, it is necessary that all the students appearing for the Term-I examination and the schools sponsoring these students must be fully aware of the OMR.

OMR is Disclosed by Providing the Following Information

    • 1. A sample copy of the OMR is enclosed with this letter.
    • 2. The details of the candidates will be pre-filled in OMR.
    • 3. The candidate has to write a question paper code for this in the upper right corner in the space provided. Question paper code will be written on the question paper.
    • 4. The candidate has to write in his own hand the blank space provided “I confirm that all the particulars given above are correct” and sign the OMR in the running hand.
    • 5. Only Blue or Black Ball Point Pen is to be used for filling the desired information and giving feedback.
    • 6. Use of pencil is strictly prohibited. If it is found that the candidate has used pencil for filling the OMR, it will be treated as use of unfair means and action will be taken against the candidate as per the unfair means rules.
    • 7. Schools will download the OMRS in advance as per the schedule given in the guideline (to be provided by CBSE soon).
    • 8. The centre superintendent shall keep the OMR safe under lock and key after downloading and shall be used only after stamping the fax of the centre superintendent on the day of examination.

The Important Features of OMR

Following are the Important Features of OMR:

    • (i) There is space for 60 questions to be answered in the OMR irrespective of the total number of questions given in the question papers of any subject. Candidates will use maximum number of circles as per the total number of questions given in the question paper to answer. It should be in serial only.
    • (ii) Answers given after the maximum number of questions will not be evaluated. This means that if some question papers have 45 questions and the candidate answers this question by writing 45 by changing question number 46 to OMR, then it will not be evaluated.
    • (iii) For answering each question, 4 circles i.e. (a), (b), (c) & (d) are given in a row against each question. Candidates once convinced about the correctness of the answer should darken the circle with a pen.
    • (iv) After 4 circles are finished, a box is given in the same row. Candidates have to write the correct option i.e., a or b or c or d in this box as the answer.
    • (v) After the box, again a circle is given in front of the box in which the question number is also written inside the circle. This circle has to be darkened if the candidates have not attempted this question.

(vi) Candidates are advised to first mark the response by darkening the circle. If completely satisfied then they should write the answer in a box. The purpose of giving the box is only that if any candidate wants to change his answer, then it should be written in the box.
(vii) Even if a candidate is satisfied with the darkening of the circle, it has to be written in the answer box. Candidates have to answer in both a circle and a box.
(viii) The answer given in the box will be treated as final.
(ix) If the box is empty and the answer is marked in the circle, it will be presumed that the question has not been attempted by the candidate.
(x) If the answer is given in the box and the circle is left blank, it will be presumed that the question has been attempted by the candidate.
(xi) If all three i.e., 4 circle, box and last circle are left blank, then the question will be considered as not attempted.

Schools are requested to organize practice sessions for the students on the basis of the information provided by CBSE. Before the practice session, teachers should also be well acquainted with OMR.
