The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi will host the Third SciTech Spin Lecture for school children on November 20, titled “CONTENT THAT MATTERS”. Professor of the Institute of Chemistry Department A. Gangly and R Prasad of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, will give talks with lab demonstrations.
Titled “MATERIALS IN NATURE AND FOR THE FUTURE”, Prof. Ganguly’s talk will focus on what one can learn from nature – butterflies, sharks, leaves – and designing new materials for smart windows, cells and cells. Imaging of interiors, protecting surfaces from BACTERIA and other modern technologies to combat extreme temperatures.

Pro. R. Prasad, whose speech is titled “SINKING OF SHIPS AND FALLING OF AIRCRAFT: THE SCIENCE OF DEFORMATION”, with the help of some simple experiments using balloons and strips of paper, will explain to students some interesting situations such as when a steel hammer strikes an ice block that “BREAKS IS ICE, NOT A HAMMER”. But when Titanic’s steel hull hit an iceberg, why did it break in two and sank, he said. Children have to understand all these things.

SCI-Tech Spins is an academic outreach initiative by IIT Delhi for school students from class 9 to 12. All the registered students enrolled by their schools attending the lecture will receive e-certificates from IIT Delhi. The institute will also broadcast the lecture live on its YouTube (YT) channel.
IIT Delhi will also invite these students to the Open House, an annual intellectual festival that provides a platform for school students to connect with leading researchers in the field of science and technology.
The first “Sci-TECH” spin lecture titled “DESIGN THINKING – A POWERFUL TOOL FOR PROBLEM SOLVING”, was organized by the institute on September 11, 2021. The second lecture “LEARNING TO LEARN THROUGH MODELING”, was held on October 23, 2021.
IIT-Bombay Develops Computer Simulator to Prevent Spread of CORONA in Enclosed Spaces:
Researchers from IIT Bombay developed the simulator after studying the air flow inside the enclosed campus. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Bombay) has developed a computer simulator that will “PREVENT THE SPREAD OF THE VIRUS” inside the enclosed campus.
According to the researchers, public washrooms can act as dead zones where aerosols carrying viruses like CORONA-19 can linger ten times longer than a normal restroom.
Ideally, the air in a room should be constantly replaced with fresh air for proper ventilation, but it may be in areas behind doors, in corners, around furniture or near an obstruction. Gets trapped behind – K Sinha, professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering, said.
While window fans, air conditioners, and exhaust fans keep most parts of a room properly ventilated, in these dead zones, air gets trapped and continues to move in a circular motion. Technically, these are referred to as “RECIRCULATION CALLED ZONES”. These zones were identified using computer simulation studies.
Describing the computer simulator, the professor said, “Ventilation systems are often designed keeping in mind the change in air per hour (ACH) value.
It is assumed that every corner is getting fresh air, but our simulations have shown us that some corners do not get as much fresh air as other open parts. If infected people are using it, it is necessary to rapidly pump fresh air into these areas.
