The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Academic Council on Wednesday decided to conduct admission through Common University Entrance Test (CUET) from the next academic session, which was opposed by the teachers and student unions of the university. According to a statement issued by Admissions Director Jayant K Tripathi, the academic council members in their meeting “STRONGLY SUPPORTED” the decision.
Recently, Delhi University also decided to conduct the admission through CUET from the next academic session. The university had earlier in its academic council meeting held in March last year also decided that whenever the National Testing Agency conducts CUET, the university will go by it, the statement said.
Providing equal opportunities to multiple eligible students:
During the deliberations in the Academic Council, a large number of members including Deans of Schools, Centre Presidents and external members of the Council emphasized that CUET will provide a level playing field to many deserving students across the country thereby reducing the burden will happen.
