After much wait, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has recently released the Class 10 and Class 12 Sample Papers for the 2025-26 Term 1 Board Exams.

CBSE Released, Sample Paper Issues:
However, there is a major issue in this sample paper released by CBSE, which has led to massive confusion. In some subjects of class 10 and 12 sample papers, CBSE has provided more than the required number of questions to attempt in the Term 1 exam (after including the choices), as seen in the past in the objective section.

Term-1 Subject Sample Papers

Term-1 Subject Sample Papers Where We Got Confusion:

    • 1) Class (10) Science = 50 MCQs (out of 60), Term 1 paper is considered of 40 marks
    • 2) Class (10) Computer Application = 40 MCQs (out of 50), Term 1 paper is considered to be of 25 marks
    • 3) Class (10) Social Science = 50 MCQs (out of 60), Term 1 paper is considered to be of 40 marks
    • 4) Class (12) Physics = 45 MCQs (out of 55), Term 1 paper is considered to be of 35 marks
    • 5) Class (12) Chemistry = 45 MCQs (out of 55), Term 1 paper is considered to be of 35 marks
    • 6) Class (12) Biology = 50 MCQs (out of 60), Term 1 paper is considered to be of 35 marks
    • 7) Class (12) Accountancy = 45 MCQs (out of 54), Term 1 paper is considered to be of 40 marks.

Both Term 1 & Term 2 Will Be Of 40 Marks:
As CBSE had clearly established in circular Academy- 53/2021 dated July 22, 2021 that both Term 1 and Term 2 will be of 40 marks. These released sample papers can be confusing for the students and teachers.

In many subjects, it is clearly written within the instructions that all the questions carry the same mark weighting, so it is unlikely that the MCQs in different sections will also have different marks.

Board May Soon have to Explain

There are 3-4 possibilities to conclude as suggested by CBSE experts after reviewing these sample papers.

    • 1) CBSE may provide an update or clarification to rectify the issue.
    • 2) In Term 1 board exam, CBSE may allot 0.7-0.8 marks per MCQ (40/45 or 40/50) for the above subjects and 1 meter per MCQ for the remaining subjects of total 40 marks paper can be allocated to maintain.
    • 3) CBSE may maintain the 1m MCQ weightage and change the Term 1 and Term 2 Marks breakdown for these subjects, i.e., Term 1 to have more weightage than Term 2, again, they will soon get an explanation for the same may have to give.
    • 4) Along with this, Assertion/Reason, Labelling and Diagram-based MCQs are offered in many topics which were not usually asked till now. So, to help the students prepare for these type of sample paper-based MCQs.

Important Points for Sample Question Papers, Notice By CBSE

For the academic session 2025-26, several points should be kept in mind while referring or studying the sample papers for class X and class XII standard:

    1. Multiple-Choice-Questions (MCQs) given in the sample papers are not of one mark each for all the papers.
    2. SQP of Mathematics and in all languages except English, each question carries one mark.
    3. If the total marks obtained by a candidate is in fraction, it will be rounded off to the next higher numerical number, for example, if the child gets 16.1 marks, then the total marks will be rounded off to 17 and so on.
    4. For other subjects, each question carries equal marks. The total marks awarded i.e., 40 or 35 or 25 or 15 and the weightage of marks per question. Download PDF of Notice.
