Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate 11 medical colleges in Tamil Nadu today i.e. on January 12. Along with medical science colleges, a new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil in Chennai will also be inaugurated.

Estimated cost of around Rs 4,000 crore

The districts where new medical colleges are being set up include Tiruppur, Tiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Virudhunagar, Namakkal, Nilgiris, Dindigul, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Ramanathapuram and Krishnagiri. The new medical colleges have been set up at an estimated cost of around Rs 4,000 crore, of which around Rs 2,145 crore is provided by the Center and the rest by the Tamil Nadu government.

Increased Seats:
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), there has been an increase of 79.61 per cent (from 51,348 seats to 92,222 seats) in MBBS seats and 80.71 per cent (from 31,184 seats to 56,374 seats) in PG seats during the last seven years. years.
New Medical Colleges with a cumulative capacity of 1,449 seats are being set up under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme ‘Establishment of New Medical Colleges attached to existing District OR Referral Hospital’.

Number of Medical Colleges, a jump of 597

The PMO said that before 2014 the total number of medical seats was around 82,501 and there has been a jump of around 80 per cent or 66,001 seats in the last seven years.
It added that the total number of medical colleges (both government and private) has increased from 387 to 597, an increase of about 54 per cent.

PM Modi had sought suggestions from the youth of the country for his speech:

    • 1) As part of the celebration, a National Youth Summit will be organized on January 13, 2022 with an aim to bring together the diverse cultures of India and integrate them into a single formula of “EK BHARAT, SHRESTHA BHARAT”.
    • 2) Idea Exchange Youth Summit session will be held with domestic and global icons and experts to spread knowledge and shape wisdom, it added.
    • 3) Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked affiliated schools to celebrate “National Youth Day” and “Jayanti of Swami Vivekananda” in online or offline mode.
    • 4) “All schools affiliated to CBSE may celebrate “National Youth Day” and “Jayanti of Swami Vivekananda” on 12 January 2022 through online OR offline mode,” the board said.
    • 5) The Board has asked the schools to organize special meetings, debates or speeches and cultural programs dedicated to Swami Vivekananda on the occasion.
