The proposal for class 12 exams 2021 are given by centre. The meeting that was said earlier was concluded today, which we can call a kind of high-level meeting. As it announced before a majority of the states favoured holding the Class 12 board exams and said they would study the two proposals mooted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
There is a lot of confusion and concerns among the teachers, parents and students about this exam. The parents are worried about the exam, while the teachers and students are confused about whether or not the exam. The thought of Delhi and Kerala state governments is completely different. First of all, they want to vaccinate the people and students of their states before the exams. However, states like Maharashtra government told that “non-examination way of route” for Class 12 students should be actively examined.
It seems that Bengal, will not cancel any exam. As can be seen Bengal which has not cancelled any of its two board exams, they will take a call next week. It can be clearly seen in the meeting that the views of any state are not the same. Ramesh Pokhriyal said the government will take a decision soon to remove the uncertainty among students and teachers. Meanwhile, the ministry of education has sought detailed suggestions from state governments regarding the same by 25th may 2021.
All the education secretaries and chairpersons of state examination boards and education ministers of States and Union Territories as well as all the stakeholders said that the meeting was extremely fruitful as we received immensely valuable suggestions.
Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank (Union Minister for Education), said that we are confident and we will be able to arrive at an informed, collaborative decision regarding the exams and remove the uncertainty among students and parents’ minds. As we informing them of our final decision at the possible earliest time. He also said that that both students’ and teachers’ safety, security, and future are supremely important to us. Our education minister requested the State Governments to send their detailed suggestions by May 25.
Smriti Zubin Irani (Union Minister for Women and Child) and Union Minister Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar among those who attended the meeting besides education ministers and secretaries of several states and union territories. Union defence minister Rajnath Singh chaired the over three-hour long meeting.
CBSE proposes two options, according to a senior official present in the meeting, “It was proposed that Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) can conduct exams in the present format for major subjects and by the offline exams the marking system of remaining subjects can be done on the basic performance in the papers of every students. The board said that the number of centres will be increased to ensure social distance if exams can be conducted using this option.
“In the meeting there were discussed about the other option which is related to the changing the pattern of the exam. The duration can be reduced, instead of 3 hours, students will be given 90 minutes and the questions can be objective type. The exams can be conducted in home schools of students, if second option is chosen. The students have given an option to appear for any three or do any three subjects, out of four subjects in this format.”
It was shown during the meeting where the students and their parents were demanding about the cancellation of board exam and where the “hash tag cancel board exam” and “hash tag CBSE cancel board exam” were trend on various social platforms.
According to officials, during the meeting, the options proposed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) as well as the possibility to execute them were discussed. Manish Sisodia (Delhi Deputy Chief Minister) said – if CBSE conduct the exams without vaccinating students, there will be big mistake. He said, his government is not in favour of the options being explored by CBSE to conduct the exams.
Government of Delhi, is not in favour of these types of options. In a class 12th, there are over 1.6 crore students across the country and 95 per cent of them are above the age of seventeen-and-a- half years. During the meeting, many states were insisting on vaccination of coronavirus in lieu of examination. Conducting the examination by toying with students’ safety will prove to be a big mistake. Manish Sisodia (Delhi deputy chief minister) said during press conference. We cannot play with the safety of students just to fulfil our stubborn wishes.
As the third wave of coronavirus is going on in the whole country, then the Kerala government also made a proposed accordingly. The Kerala government gave a proposal that the Centre should vaccinate all school children before examination, against Corona viruses. Manish Sisodia (Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi) suggested that the Centre should speak to experts to see if the students can be given either the Covaxin or Covi-shield doses.
According to the schedule of the National Entrance Exams, a decision on conducting the board exams will be taken based – said Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa.
The Tamil Nadu government proposed that the exams can be conducted after the Covid – 19 situation subsided in the state. School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi told that, Tamil Nadu also wanted to conduct the Class 12 examination as this examination play a significant role in deciding careers of each and every students.
Where it can be seen in Karnataka state where their Primary and Secondary Education Minister S. Suresh Kumar said in the interest of students, it is very important to conduct the examination of Class 12th. Since the state of Odisha is busy in preparation for the ensuing cyclone, we will take a decision after it – said Odisha School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash.
It is to be noted that the Centre is keen on holding CBSE 12th board exams. The format of the same is still being decided. Education Minister “Nishank” will give this information on June 01.
