According to the state government notification issued on Thursday, schools, universities, colleges and coaching institutes for classes 9 to 12 will reopen in Rajasthan from September 1.

First Dose Should be Completed

In April this year, educational institutions were closed due to the lockdown in view of the second wave of corona virus. As per the guidelines issued by the Home Department, all teaching and non-teaching staff of coaching institutes should be fully vaccinated (completed both doses of COVID-19 vaccine) while drivers and other teaching and non-teaching staff should be provided transportation facilities. Schools or colleges or universities should receive at least the first dose of vaccine.

Guidelines Issued by the Home Department

The state government had constituted a ministerial committee to discuss about the reopening of schools. The committee had recently submitted its report with recommendations to the Chief Minister after which the decision was taken.

    • 1) Only 50 per cent students will be allowed to attend classes in each session to maintain the KOVID-19 protocol.
    • 2) Students appearing in regular class will have to submit written consent from guardian or parent and no student will be compelled to appear in the offline class.
    • 3) The facility of online classes will continue for those who do not attend regular classes.
    • 4) Classes will be conducted in online mode only for the students of class 1 to 8.
    • 5) As per the notification, all government and private schools, universities, colleges and coaching institutes from class 9 to 12 in Rajasthan will reopen from September 1.
    • 6) Morning assembly will not be allowed in schools, while maintaining social distancing and hygiene all other guidelines related to COVID-19 will have to be followed, it said.
    • 7) Students will be allowed to enter the campus after being tested for COVID-19.

CORONA-19 Tests by Punjab Government

The Punjab government decided to increase the number of CORONA-19 tests and conduct more than 10,000 tests daily in schools, days after schools reopened for offline classes after 26 students from the schools tested positive for the virus.

Six Students Found Infected:
On Tuesday, 20 students from two schools in Ludhiana tested positive for Covid-19. On Wednesday, six students of a government school in Hoshiarpur were found infected with the disease, after which the government had to take this step.

40,000 Samples Per Day

The Chief Secretary also asked the Deputy Commissioners to ensure that only fully vaccinated employees are allowed to attend schools. Chief Secretary Mahajan asked the concerned departments to expedite the RT-PCR test and said that the target of taking 40 thousand samples per day should be achieved in the state.

Schools in Punjab were reopened for offline classes for students of classes 9 to 12 from August 2. Nearly a week after schools reopened, students were tested positive for the virus, raising concerns for parents and teachers.

Neighbouring States Reported Positive Cases

    • 1) Several students from schools in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh have been tested positive in the last one week. Apart from Punjab, schools in neighbouring states have also reported positive cases among students as offline classes have resumed.
    • 2) The Himachal Pradesh government also opened schools for the students of class 9th to 12th from August 2. While Haryana had opened schools for senior classes (classes 9 to 12) from July 16, Punjab allowed all classes from pre-nursery to class 12 on August 2.
    • 3) As a precautionary measure, the Himachal Pradesh government has decided to close schools in several districts. A total of 62 students have tested positive for COVID-19 in Himachal Pradesh in the last two weeks.
