The University of Manchester has announced five British Council Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics for master’s degree female students from India and other countries in South Asia.
The university highlighted this as part of a partnership between the British Council and India’s Department of Science and Technology (DST) on Gender Advancement through Transforming Institutions, or a project to advance women in STEM in India.

The fully funded scholarship aims to increase opportunities for women and girls studying in STEM and will cover full tuition fees and most of the expenses associated with study abroad, including flights, visas and monthly stipends, as well as Provision has also been made for traveling with children.

The British Council is committed to addressing gender imbalances in science, technology and innovation, including girls’ education and education, – she said. The British Council said that more than 181 Indian women have been able to earn master’s degrees in STEM subjects in the UK since 2018.
Applicants for new scholarships must demonstrate a case for financial aid and that they are active in the field of study with work experience or a proven interest in the field they are applying for. According to data from the United Nations Scientific Education and Cultural Organization, less than 30–31 percent of researchers worldwide are women and only 30–31 percent of female students choose STEM-related fields in higher education.
Globally, enrolment of female students is particularly low in information and communication technology (3 percent), natural science, mathematics and statistics (5 percent), and engineering, construction and construction (8 percent).
