Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana is also known as KVPY. KVPY Examination is held every year to encourage students to take up research careers in Science. KVPY exam is a national-level scholarship-based exam for meritorious candidates to enroll career in Basic Science such as B.Sc./ B.Math./ B.S./ B.Math./ B.Stat/ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S.

KVPY Exam

The candidates who are studying in 11th, 12th & First year (Basic Science course) can apply for this course if they fulfill all the eligibility criteria mentioned below. The exam is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Science (IISc). The KVPY exam was started in 1999 by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) by the Government of India.

The students who qualify KVPY exam are eligible for the fellowship program. The candidates receive scholarships from 1st Year graduation in the Science field. KVPY scholarship for graduates is INR 5000 & for Post-Graduate candidates, the amount is INR 7000. KVPY exam will be conducted on 7th September 2021. Eligibility Criteria for the KVPY Examination Stream-wise

Stream SA

    1. The candidates must have passed the 10th examination & are eligible to enroll for the 11th Science standard during the academic year of 2024-25 are eligible for an Aptitude test. The candidates should make a certificate for the 11th pass standard once they qualify for the KVPY exam. The fellowship is provided to those students who will enroll in an Undergraduate course in Basic Science.
    2. Courses are B.Sc./ B.Math./ B.S./ B.Math./ B.Stat/ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S.
    3. In the academic year 2024-25 after securing a minimum of 60% for General category candidate & 50% for SC, ST & PwD in Science & Mathematics subjects in 12th Board examination.

Stream SX

    • The candidates who enrolled in the 12th standard with Science subjects during the academic year of 2024-25 & will join Undergraduate course in Basic Science courses are B.Sc./ B.Math./ B.S./ B.Math./ B.Stat/ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S. during the academic year of 2024-25.
    •  The fellowship is provided to those students who will enroll in Undergraduate course in Basic Science B.Sc./ B.Math./ B.S./ B.Math./ B.Stat/ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S. in the academic year 2024-25 after securing a minimum of 60% for General category candidate & 50% for SC, ST & PwD in Science & Mathematics subjects Physics/ Chemistry/ Biology in the 12th Board examination
    • The above Eligibility is also applicable for candidates studying in their 2nd year of study in the Cambridge International Examination Board.

Stream SB

    1. The candidates must have passed the 12th examination & are eligible to enroll in 1st year B.Sc./ B.Math./ B.S./ B.Math./ B.Stat/ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S. during the academic year of 2024-25 are eligible to appear for the Aptitude test.
    2. The candidates should produce a study certificate for 1st year B.Sc./ B.Math./ B.S./ B.Math./ B.Stat/ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S. once they are selected for KVPY fellowship.
    3. The fellowship of the candidates selected under this stream are only eligible if they will join an Undergraduate course in Basic Science B.Sc./ B.Math./ B.S./ B.Math./ B.Stat/ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S in the academic year 2024-25 securing a minimum of 60% for General category candidate & 50% for SC, ST & PwD in 1st year B.Sc./ B.Math./ B.S./ B.Math./ B.Stat/ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S.

NOTE:
Students enrolled in Undergraduate course in Basic Science that is B.Sc./ B.Math./ B.S./ B.Math./ B.Stat/ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S. in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Statistics, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Biotechnology, Physiology, Bioinformatics, Neurosciences, Geology, Marine Biology, Genetics, Human Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Geophysics or Environmental Science are eligible for KVPY Fellowship.

Some Important points for KVPY Candidates:
1. KVPY Exam has three streams:

    • SA – Those students pursuing science stream and currently in Class 11th.
    • SX – Those students pursuing science stream and currently in Class 12th.
    • SB – Those students pursuing a program in the Basic science stream and currently in the first year of graduation.

2. The candidates must be Indian then he/she will be eligible for the KVPY Examination.
3. Those candidates who are pursuing undergraduate courses Under Distance Education are not eligible for the KVPY Examination.

Exam Pattern for the KVPY Exam

1. Stream SA:

    • The total questions in SA Stream will be 80 whereas 60 questions are in Part-I & 20 questions are in Part-II.
    • Total marks for the SA stream papers are 100.
    • Candidates should attempt all the questions. All the questions are compulsory.
    • In the SA stream paper Part-I is of 1 mark & Part-II is for 2 marks.
    • In the SA paper Part-I any questions get wrong -0.25 get deducted & in Part-II any questions get wrong -0.5 get deducted.

Stream SB/SX

    • The total questions in SB/SX Stream will be 120 whereas 80 questions are in Part-I & 40 questions are in Part-II. The students should only attempt 80 questions.
    • Total marks for the SB/SX stream papers are 160.
    • Candidates should attempt all the questions. All the questions are compulsory.
    • In SB/SX paper Part-1 is of 1 mark questions & Part-2 is of 2 marks.
    • In SB/SX paper Part-1 any questions gets wrong -0.25 marks gets deducted & in Part-2 -0.5 marks gets deducted.
    • Candidates of Class 12th have to attempt either Mathematics or Biology section.
    • Candidates have to attempt any three sections from Part-1 (20*3=60) & any two sections from part-2 (20*2=40) so the total marks are 100.

KVPY Scholarship per Month Stipend:

    • KVPY scholarship exam will be held on 7th November 2021. This year no interview will be conducted the selection is based on the Aptitude Test.
    • Once the candidates will select for the KVPY Scholarship authority will be awarded the scholarship to selected candidates.

Fee for KVPY Examination:

    • The candidate who falls in the General Category having application fees are INR 1250.
    • The candidate who falls in the SC, ST, OBC & PwD Category having application fees are INR 625.
    • Once the fees are paid by candidates they won’t get refunded.

Preparation tips for KVPY Exam:

    1. Candidates should first complete the easier topics & after that solve previous year’s questions so you will get an idea in which sections what type of questions are there.
    2. Use your time wisely & give time to all subjects for preparation so when exam date will get closer so you don’t need to worry.
    3. Maintain a Notebook for formula and daily revise the formula so at the time of examination you have learned all the formulas it will get benefited.
    4. Candidates should also work on their weak topics so they can score good marks in their exam but don’t take too much stress regarding how you can cover. First, thoroughly read the topics and try to do questions about the weak topics. Start from basic and then increase your level.
    5. After covering any topics you should solve the questions of that chapter it will help to improve your speed skills & boost your efficiency in exams
    6. After covering most of the topics give Mock papers so it will show at which stage you are at the time of preparation.
    7. At the time of examination, you should be confident while giving the exam so you can concentrate well in the Exam.

How to fill an Application Form?

KVPY exam is conducted by IISc, Banglore. If any candidates want to fill the application form then visit the official website www.kvpy.iisc.ernet.in The candidates have to follow all the steps in the sequence. KVPY Online registration starts on 12th July 2021.

    • The candidates are advised to fill the form carefully without making any kind of mistakes.
    • The candidates should also have their E-Mail ID & Phone No. while filling the form. So in the future KVPY will send any information concerning your application & Examination.
    • After receiving a confirmation message through E-Mail Id or Phone No. you may log in with your User ID & Password.
    • Before submitting the application form candidates are advised to check all the details once carefully. Once submitted no changes in the application form will be entertained.
    • The online form includes Registration/ Login, Personal Details, Academic details, photograph, signature, other required documents, fee payment & final submission.
    • Candidates are required to have a soft copy/ scanned image in JPG/JPEG format.
    • Candidate’s photograph must be less than 150 KB & Signature less than 80 KB.
    • The Scheduled Caste & Scheduled Tribes candidates should upload their scanned copy of the caste certificate & For PwD candidate’s medical certificate in PDF format with less than 300 KB.
    • After completion of all details & Photographs the last step is Payment of Fee.
    • Payment can be done using a Debit Card, Credit Card, UPI, or Net-Banking. Once the fee is paid there is no refund policy.
