To Draw a Line Parallel to a Given Line at a Given Distance from It
Draw a line parallel to a given line at a distance of 3 cm from it.
Steps of construction:
1. Let AB be the given line.
2. Take any two points P and Q on AB.
3. Construct ∠BPE = 90° and ∠BQF = 90°.
4. With P as centre and radius equal to 3 cm, cut PE at C.
5. With Q as centre and radius equal to 3 cm, cut QF at D.
6. Join CD and produce it on either side to get the required line parallel to AB and at a distance of 3 cm from it.

Do parallel lines intersect?
Parallel lines are lines in a plane that are always the same distance apart. Parallel lines never intersect.
Do parallel lines have the same slope?
In other words, the slopes of parallel lines are equal. Note that two lines are parallel if their slopes are equal and they have different y-intercepts. In other words, perpendicular slopes are negative reciprocals of each other.
