### Class 7 Maths Chapter 10 Exercise 10.2 Solution in Videos

##### To Draw a Line Parallel to a Given Line at a Given Distance from It

Example:

Draw a line parallel to a given line at a distance of 3 cm from it.

##### Steps of construction:

1. Let AB be the given line.

2. Take any two points P and Q on AB.

3. Construct ∠BPE = 90° and ∠BQF = 90°.

4. With P as centre and radius equal to 3 cm, cut PE at C.

5. With Q as centre and radius equal to 3 cm, cut QF at D.

6. Join CD and produce it on either side to get the required line parallel to AB and at a distance of 3 cm from it.

### Class 7 Maths Exercise 10.2 Extra Questions

### Do parallel lines intersect?

Parallel lines are lines in a plane that are always the same distance apart. Parallel lines never intersect.

### Do parallel lines have the same slope?

In other words, the slopes of parallel lines are equal. Note that two lines are parallel if their slopes are equal and they have different y-intercepts. In other words, perpendicular slopes are negative reciprocals of each other.

### How can we prove that two lines are parallel?

Properties of parallel line

(i) Two lines cut by a transversal line are parallel when the corresponding angles are equal.

(ii)Two lines cut by a transversal line are parallel when the alternate interior angles are equal.

(iii) Two lines cut by a transversal line are parallel when the alternate exterior angles are equal.

### Class 7 Maths Exercise 10.2 Important Questions

### What do parallel lines look like?

Parallel lines look like railroad tracks: they are always the same distance apart, running next to each other. The lines do intersect. Next, determine if the lines intersect at a right angle. The lines do not intersect at a right angle.

### What are five ways to prove two lines are parallel?

Ways to Prove Two Lines Parallel

(i) Show that corresponding angles are equal.

(ii) Show that alternative interior angles are equal.

(iii) Show that consecutive interior angles are supplementary.

(iv) Show that consecutive exterior angles are supplementary.

(v) In a plane, show that the lines are perpendicular to the same line.

### How do you prove two lines are parallel without angles?

If two lines have a transversal which forms alternative interior angles that are congruent, then the two lines are parallel. If two lines have a transversal which forms corresponding angles that are congruent, then the two lines are parallel.
