Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati will launch a School of Health Sciences and Technology. The new school at IIT Guwahati is to be started in collaboration with the Mehta Family Foundation (MFF), Houston, Texas, USA to establish the ‘Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology’. This will be the new school in IIT Guwahati. Undertake academic activities during the current academic year.
The new school will offer MTech and PhD programs in health sciences and technology and seeks to promote cutting-edge research in medical science, diagnostics, stem cells, public health and health data analysis, a statement from IIT Guwahati said.
Highlighting the initiatives being taken up by the New Centre, Director IIT Guwahati said, – The Institute thanks the Mehta Family Foundation for its generous support for setting up this second new program on Health Science and Technology at IIT Guwahati, who will develop it. Cutting-edge education and research in areas related to medical science, regenerative medicine, stem cells, public health, diagnostics, prostheses, implantation, bioinformatics, molecular biology, and health data analysis.
Addressing the program, Prof. AK. Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, said- I congratulate IIT Guwahati and the Mehta Family Foundation for this remarkable initiative. At this juncture, I can clearly see that the School of Health Science and Technology will host many modern academic courses, centres of excellence, incubators and research laboratories for advancement in multidisciplinary research and education, which are currently needed. The first batch of 20 MTech students in the stream of Biomedical Science and Engineering will be admitted to IIT Guwahati through GATE 2022. Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology has started a new Master and PhD program in Health Science and Technology from this academic year.
The new program will emphasize the expansion of training in both theoretical and practical approaches, which will enable the development of academic leaders with a strong scientific base, along with the ability to translate ideas into biomedical technologies.
This new multidisciplinary program on Health Science and Technology at IIT Guwahati has been designed on the basis of National Policy on Education (NEP) 2020. NEP advocates the development of a holistic academic curriculum to nurture the best talent of the country through both academic and practical training.
