What are our basic needs?
A necessity is something that we must have in order to live properly or do something. And our basic needs are that we must have food, water, air, and shelter to survive. If any one of these basic needs is not met, then humans cannot survive. We all need food to live. We get food from plants and animals. We also need clothes to wear and houses for shelter.
What is called the web of life?
All living things and non – living things are linked to one another and depend on one another. This is called web of life.

What are non – living things?

How are living things dependent on each other?
Living things depend on each other directly or indirectly for fulfilling their basic requirements. Like plants give us oxygen to breathe and animals and humans give out carbon dioxide which is required by the plants to survive. Human beings and animals depend upon the plants for their foods. The food chain begins from the plants only. Human beings also depend upon animals for their food. So all the living things are dependent on each other for survival. We also get so many things from plants and animals
How do living things depend upon non- living things?
We depend on each other and need the non-living things in our homes, like food, water, air, and furniture. Living things need nonliving things to survive. Without food, water, and air, living things die. Plants use water from the soil, carbon dioxide from the air, and energy from sunlight to make their own food. Their environment consists of physical factors—such as soil, air, and temperature—and also of other organisms. All living things depend on their environment to supply them with what they need, including food, water, and shelter.
Why is soil important?
Soil is very important as:
• It provides plants with grip for their roots and holds the necessary nutrients for plants to grow
• it filters the rainwater and regulates the discharge of excess rainwater
• It prevents flooding
• it acts as a water filter and a growing medium that provides habitat for organisms,
• it provides plants with essential minerals and nutrients.
• It provides air for gaseous exchange between roots and atmosphere.
How do we depend on the sun?
Sun is important for us-
• Humans need sunlight for our bodies to produce some vitamins
• It drives weather, ocean currents, seasons, and climate
• It makes plant life possible through photosynthesis.
• Without the sun’s heat and light, life on Earth would not exist.
How are bricks made?
Bricks are made by shaping a plastic mass of clay and water, which is then hardened by drying and firing. Bricks are burned in a kiln which makes them durable. Sandy and loamy soils are considered good soils for making bricks.
How do we get oxygen to breathe?
Oxygen is essential for life. Normal air contains 21% oxygen, which we breathe into our lungs so it can enter our bloodstream to help with the proper functioning of our tissues and organs. We also breathe as a way to push out carbon dioxide gas, which is a type of waste our bodies produce.
How do we get oxygen from plants?
Plants make their food in a process called photosynthesis. Once they have water and carbon dioxide, they can use energy from sunlight to make their food. The leftovers from making the plant food is another gas called oxygen. This oxygen is released from the leaves into the air.

This chapter is fairly important as I cannot say with the perspective of examination but with the point that environmental science is one of the subjects to gain knowledge so that they can apply it in their daily lives.
