University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman M.J. Kumar held a meeting with the Vice-Chancellors of all Central Universities to discuss various issues related to higher education. In the meeting all the Bureau Heads of UGC were present to answer the questions of the Vice-Chancellor.
This will help bring real-world practice and experience into the classroom. In turn, industry and society will benefit from trained graduates equipped with relevant skills, – said the UGC Chairman.
He said the move would increase faculty resources in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
Another important objective is to bring to the educational institution eminent experts from various fields like engineering, science, technology, entrepreneurship, commerce, social sciences, media, literature, fine arts, civil service, armed forces, legal profession, and public administration.
The objectives of the draft guidelines include developing curricula and syllabi to meet industry and societal needs and enabling HEIs to work with industry experts on joint research projects and consultancy services that will be mutually beneficial.
Earlier on Tuesday, the UGC had approved draft guidelines for appointment of “practicing professors” in universities and colleges. The decision comes after the 560th meeting of the UGC and will soon be released for stakeholder feedback. The decision was taken as a measure to promote the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which seeks to transform higher education with a focus on skill-based education to meet the needs of industry and the economy.
