Drinking Water

Drinking water should be clean and pure. Dirty water contains germs. Germs can make us sick. We can kill the germs by boiling water for 20 minutes. We can also use water filter to remove germs.

Sources of Water

We get water from ponds, lakes and rivers. When it rains, water fills up ponds, lakes and rivers. Rainwater also goes below the ground. This water is called groundwater. We get groundwater through wells, hand pumps or tube wells. In big cities, people get water from taps.

Clean Water for Drinking

Water that we get from ponds, lakes and rivers is not fit for drinking. It contains dirt and germs. If we drink this water, it may make us sick.

Impure Water

Water becomes impure and dirty when:

2. people wash clothes there;
3. factories release dirty water into them.

Impure water is very harmful for our health. We should not use water of the ponds, lakes or rivers for drinking.

Water is very important for men, animals and plants. We should not waste it. We should save it. Useful tips to

save water:

We can save water by:
1. Turn off the tap when it is not in use.

Forms of Water

Water is found in three forms:
1. Liquid
2. Ice
3. vapour

Water Cycle

Water changes its forms continuously in nature. This process is called water cycle. Heat of the sun turns the water of rivers, lakes and sea into water vapours. Again these water vapours change into tiny droplets. When water droplets become heavy, they fall on the earth in the form of rain. This water again goes into the rivers and lakes. The heat of the sun turns water of rivers, lakes and sea again into water vapours.
