Write four fractions equivalent to 5/7.
5/7 = 5/7 x 2/2 = 5/7 x 3/3 = 5/7 x 4/4
So, 5/7 = 10/14 = 15/21 = 20/28
Hence, four fractions equivalent to 5/7 are 10/14,1 5/21, 20/28 and 25/35
Reduce to the simplest form: (i) 9/21, (ii) 32/68
(i) Here, numerator is 9 and denominator is 21.
Let us find the HCF of 9 and 21.
Factors of 9 are 1, 3 and 9.
Factors of 21 are 1, 3, 7 and 21.
Common factors of 9 and 21 are 1 and 3.
So, HCF of 9 and 21 is 3.
Thus, (9/3)/ (21/3) = 3/7
Thus, 3/7 is the simplest form or the lowest term of 9/21.
(ii) Here, numerator is 32 and denominator is 68. Let us find the HCF of 32 and 68
Factors of 32 are 2, 2, 2, 2, 2 and Factors of 68 are 2, 2, 17
Hence HCF of 32 and 68 is 4
Thus (32/4)/(68/4) = 8/17
Hence, 8/17 is the simplest form or the lowest term of 32/68.
