The Earth

Our country has different geographical features. The land here is not alike everywhere. Somewhere it is low and somewhere high but at some place it’s surface is flat also. High raised parts of the land are called mountains. Rivers originate from the mountains.
Low parts of the land are filled with water. These parts generally form lakes. The parts which have flat surfaces are called plains.

Mostly all creatures live on land. We have schools, offices and factories on the land. Grains are grown on the land and so also many other things. Besides this, all natural things are also found on the land. We get everything from this land. So, we call it motherland or “Dharti Mata”.

A valley is an area between two hills or mountains. It is plain and fertile. An island is a piece of land surrounded by water on all sides. A part of the land full of trees, plants and animals is called forest. A desert is a part of the earth covered with sand. It is very dry.

A large part of the earth is covered with water. These water bodies are called oceans. Ponds, lakes, streams are small water bodies. A lake is a large area of fresh or salty water surrounded by land. A river is formed when the snow on the high mountains melt. A very large body of water is called the sea. Big seas are called the oceans.
