##### General Method of Converting a Common Fraction into a Decimal Fraction

To convert a common fraction into a decimal fraction, we adopt the division method. In this method, we use the following steps:
Step-1: Divide the numerator by the denominator till a non-zero remainder is obtained.
Step-2: Put a decimal point in the dividend as well as in the quotient.
Step-3: Put a zero on the right of the decimal point in the dividend as well as on the right of the remainder.
Step-4: Divide again just as we do in whole numbers.
Step-5: Repeat step 4 till the remainder is zero.

Example:
Convert 3/4 into decimals.
Divide the numerator 3 by the denominator 4.
¾ = 3.00/4 = 0.75

##### Convert 9(8/25) into decimal fractions.

9(8/25) can be written as (9 x 25 + 8)/25 = 233/25 = (233 x 4)/ (25 x 4) = 932/100 = 9.32

##### Express in kilograms, using decimals: (i) 3 kg 222 g (ii) 8 g

(i) 3 kg 222 g = 3 kg + 222 g
= 3 kg + 222/1000 (because 1 g = 1/1000 kg)
= 3.222 kg
(ii) 8 g = 8/1000 = 0.008 kg

Example:
Express in kilometres, using decimals:
(i) 8 km 56 m (ii) 853 m
(i)8 km 56 m = 8 km + 56 m
8 km + 56/1000 km (Because 1meter = 1/1000 km)
= 8 km + 0.056 km = 8.056 km
(ii) 853 m = 853/1000 = 0.853 km
